A Partner's review and planning meeting on the development and implementation of science based springshed management in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR) was organised on 19- 20 December, 2022 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The main objective was to review the project progress and develop plans for the initiative for the coming months. The specific aims were to review the overall progress of the initiative, prepare output wise plans and way forward for the Decision Support System (DSS), cost-benefit analysis and explore synergies with other ongoing programs on springshed management. Officials from state government departments of Himanchal Pradesh, Sikkim, Manipur and Uttarakhand participated in the meeting apart from SDC, ICIMOD, ACWADAM, PSI and Himmothan Society.
This meeting was held under the SDC's project on Strengthening Climate Change Adaptation in Himalayas (SCA-Himalayas). To address the issue of drying springs and evolving threats to water security across the region, SDC is implementing action research initiative for advancing scientific knowledge, capacity building, and developing a Decision Support System (DSS) for springshed management across IHR.
ICIMOD jointly with Advanced Center for Water Resources Development and Management (ACWADAM), Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT-R), and People's Science Institute (PSI), along with government and non-government partners are implementing this initiative in Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Manipur and Himanchal Pradesh.
